With this inexpensive grade of diamonds, visible flaws can be very likely, as can off-colors. Combine that with cloudiness rather than the clearly refracting internal facets of a good diamond, and the stones are dull and lifeless.

Unfortunately, the slightly larger size of 1/2cttw makes these flaws more apparent. The result is hit-or-miss depending on your particular stones. Mine was more miss than hit, so I returned them rather than giving the flawed earrings to my wife. I also got a pair of the 1/3 cttw diamonds (very similar and cheaper): 14k White Gold, Round, Diamond Stud Earrings (1/3 cttw, K-L Color, I3 Clarity) . That pair worked very well and was bright and clear, as shown by shining a flashlight into the stones.

Amazon’s lenient return policy applies equally to jewelry, of course.

For me at least, these 1/2 cttw earrings didn’t work. Not recommended.

I have 4 pierced holes in each of my ears and the baby diamonds I always wore were stolen when I was robbed. I have very sensitive ears and everything else I put in the 3 top holes would dig in and infect my ears.

I saw these 1/10 ct. white gold earrings here for and thought perfect! Sure, the quality of the diamonds isn’t great, but since they were 1/10 ct. it didn’t matter. They actually look a lot nicer than I expected and I never take them out!

If you don’t read the description, the picture is deceiving… but they actually look as nice as the picture… if you are looking for very small diamonds earrings for a child or for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, what have you hole, read the description here. It actually is deceiving, because the quality relayed here does not do the earrings justice.

I3 is a category of diamond that in the past would only have been used for industrial diamonds. (e.g. they would be ground up and used to make saw blades) However because of the demand for cheap diamonds, I3 diamonds are now being cut and used in jewelry. This is why the prices for certain types of diamond jewelry have become incredibly cheap.

Diamonds are graded as follows: FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2, I3

The grading description for I3 is as follows: “I3 diamonds have large and extremely easy to see inclusions that typically impact the brilliance of the diamond, as well as having inclusions that are often likely to threaten the structure of the diamond.”

I am all for look over perfection, but I would think twice before buying a diamond graded below SI2, unless this is for your young daughter who might lose them somewhere…

They come in a smallish box, with a smaller felt bag – that holds the tiny earings (the picture in Amazon must be under a micron microscope!).

I wasn’t expecting much for a small dimond with I2-I3 clarity. For those of you who do not know much about dimonds, I2-I3 means there are 2-3 flaws in the dimond visible to the eye. I got these dimonds for my baby daughter. I liked the idea that they are small, but they are way to cloudy and do no sparkle at all! Returning to Amazon for a refund.

I purchased these with an extra discount from the website for my niece. My order was for white gold earrings, but instead I received yellow gold. Upon louping the each diamond stud, I was so pleased with the clarity of the stones that I decided to keep the pair, rather than send them back for an exchange. The size of each diamond is noticeable in the ear without being overwhelming. Again, the clarity under magnification was good… especially for the price. I’d imagine this varies from pair to pair, as they are listed with I2-I3 clarity. Fortunately, I got a good pair!

They arrived in a simple earring box, which was fine. I decided not to order another pair (my niece prefers white gold), as I wasn’t sure I’d get white gold or yellow as I had with this order. If you don’t mind what gold color arrives, it’s a nice pair of diamond studs at a reasonable price. Would make a lovely, special gift, too.

I got these for ~280$ at Amazon during a Mother’s day deal. Which was a good deal considering the SI1-SI2 clarity. I say that because for the last few months (2009), you can buy 1/2 carat studs with I1-I3 clarity for 250$ at Kays Jewelers (and you can pick and choose from several pieces).

But when I got the Amazon studs, I was very pleasantly surprised with their clarity and sparkle. I was not particular about the size being small, because I needed something smaller for every-day wear(the amazon ‘on the ear’ image is pretty accurate). When I went and compared them with the I1-I3 pieces I saw at the Jewelers, there was a VERY significant difference in the clarity and sparkle but not a lot in size. Even the rep there was surprised I got them for under 300$

So if you are more concerned about the size of the diamond, you might want to check out the local jewelers first and rummage through the 8-10 pairs they usually carry – and pick the one which is clearest i.e. less yellow to the eye.

Otherwise 1/3 carat SI1-SI2 under 300$ was a very good deal for me. Too bad their prices have climbed since then.

PS: As some of you might know, Coscto also has great deals on diamonds, but they seldom carry smaller pieces like these studs.

This is the second pair of diamond studs I buy online, and I am supremely satisfied. The quality is exactly as described (although I wish there was a certificate attached about the specifications).

The only improvement I would recommend is a more premium type of packaging, rather than the small velvet pouch.

These are much smaller than they appear to be from the picture, especially if you are unfamiliar with carat sizing. By my measurement, they are 1/8 inch square. Nonetheless, they look great in my ears, subtle and unassuming, yet still have the sparkle and polish a diamond adds. If you’re looking for bling, this isn’t it, but if you want cute little studs, this is what you want.

Sure it seemed like a good deal… until I saw the earrings. I bought these as a gift for my wife, and as soon as she opened the box and looked closely at the stud, she noticed a big black carbon line inside one diamond. I wasn’t expected flawless diamonds at this price, but it is very noticeable. My wife was disappointed in the quality. On the upside, you can’t notice it when they are in her ears, and they are the perfect size if you want just a little sparkle.

I ordered these earrings, usually 0, for during a sale on Amazon. The reviews were mixed so I wasn’t sure what to expect. They are GREAT! I have better than 20/20 eyesight and I can’t see any specks or color. They look like very nice diamonds. The backs seem secure so far (there is a noise when I click them on as if they are tight), but I’d be happy even if I had to buy a different pair of backs. Actually, I bought these to replace a pair of studs I lost (a gift from an ex) and these are larger (3mm or a little more, hard to say) and nicer looking –I saw the receipt and the originals were much more expensive! Awesome buy!!!

These stones are miniscule, teeny-weeny cheap-looking things. Much too small for a teenager or adult. The photo on the website is deceptive. The backing may actually be larger than the stone. Planned to present them as a gift, but would be embarrassed to give them to anyone. They are so tiny, they’d be lost in a jewelry box. Back they go to Amazon. Lots of trouble and expense for something so trivial.
