I need a good engagement ring designer – all the rings available are NOT what I want!?

I don’t want a yellow/white gold or even platinum ring. I don’t want diamonds on it, even accent ones. But ALL the websites and stores I’ve visited in person only has the above. It’s like society’s stuck on the diamonds/gold requirements for an engagement ring, and that SUCKS. I wanted a purely silver ring (not sterling silver, my finger turns green!) with a heart-cut aquamarine centerstone with emerald side accents & engravings on the inside of the band. Anybody out there who can work with me on this?
Nianni – he asked me what I wanted. Would you want your husband to give you a pawned diamond ring from a second-rate store and expect you to adore it? Real ignorant.
What I wanted was a silver ring with my birthstone as the center, and two emerald rings on each side for his birthstone – sort of ‘hugging’ me. That truly does represent how we feel about each other, how I’m his. What does a diamond and gold represent? Nothing. A diamond represents forever, but symbolizes absolutely nothing about love. We both have already agreed on it and he is extremely excited if we can get one like that AND we’ve agreed quite a long time ago that the traditional engagement rings do not symbolize anything at all.

Type Bespoke Ring Designer into google, I did that and found a great designer based in the UK, I am sure if you did the same thing then you’d find someone in your area to help you out. I agree that diamonds are not a necessity, I had so many negative comments when people saw my ring, the amount of people that were shocked that it was not a diamond, I don’t know how many times I had to say to people “My fiance is NOT cheap, I just did not want a diamond!!!!!”

You could probably try asking the jewelery stores? They should know of designers.

I agree an engagment ring should be whatever you want it to be……….personally I want a ruby!

    Good luck!

i would say keep your eye open at the stores.. talk to one of the girls..

i went into Mappins (aka Zales in the states) mappins is the canadian store name.

i went in.. spoke to the chick at the counter.. she suggested i come into their styling day.. where they have a ring guy (i’m not sure his title).. he comes in every now and than to custom make rings.. you pick out the stones you want.. the setting.. and he takes it away to his little shop and makes it you get it back in two weeks..

I also dislike yellow gold.. (mines white gold though) i think it’s tacky.. and diamonds are so common :)

i found a stone i like its called a tazanite (its a pretty blueish purple stone).. and a ring setting which combines the wedding band and engagement ring its perfect..

it might cost you a little more but you get what you want.. and mappins (aka zales) has a pretty good warrenty.. cleanings, stone replacement, re sizing.. all that stuff is covered for the life time of the ring

It amazes me how many women feel they should choose oe design their engagement ring….frankly, I think that the engagement ring is a gift from the heart of the man with the intention and desire to marry you, and thus should be what HE thinks is appropriate and simply adored by the wife-to-be for the sentiment attached.

I just wanted to clarify that the reason just about all stores feature white gold, yellow gold, platinum, etc. bands and diamonds for the setting as engagement rings is because those actually ARE engagement rings. By what you described in your details, what you’re looking for wouldn’t be refered to as an engagement ring in the jewelry world. It’s actually called a “fashion ring”. Society isn’t “stuck” on the diamond/gold “requirements”. It’s just that those are engagement rings. Of course, there’s notthing wrong with using a fashion ring as an engagement ring if that’s what you want (what you described sounds lovely!). I just wanted to clarify why you can’t find what you’re looking for in the “engagement rings” categories.

    Good luck!
